About Grieve Leave

Grieve Leave is building a world where grief is no longer hidden, minimized, or treated as something people should quietly “get over.” Founded by Rebecca Feinglos, Grieve Leave has grown from one woman’s honest storytelling into an internationally recognized community reaching millions through media, events, workplace education, and advocacy. We are entering an exciting new chapter as we pursue nonprofit status and hire our first Executive Director.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Founding Executive Director to help lead Grieve Leave into its next era of growth and impact. This leader will partner closely with the Founder and Board to build the strategy, systems, partnerships, and team needed to expand our reach while preserving the heart of who we are.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day operations and organizational growth
  • Partner on strategic planning and long-term vision
  • Drive fundraising through donors, grants, sponsorships, and partnerships
  • Oversee programs including events, trainings, and community initiatives
  • Build internal systems for finance, HR, and operations
  • Hire and lead future staff and contractors
  • Represent Grieve Leave externally with partners, funders, and the community
Ideal Qualifications
  • Founding or senior leadership experience in nonprofit, startup, social impact, media, or related sectors
  • Proven success in fundraising, partnerships, or revenue growth
  • Strong operational and people management skills
  • Excellent communicator and relationship-builder
  • Entrepreneurial, emotionally intelligent, and mission-driven
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the Triangle region of North Carolina
Compensation

$115,000–$145,000, commensurate with experience, plus benefits as organizational capacity grows.

Grieve Leave provides a platform to share experiences of loss and reduce the sense of isolation, trains workplaces on how to better support grieving employees, and works to change policies that can better support people through their losses – whether they're due to a death, a break-up, a cross-country move, a diagnosis, or something else.

Position Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized intern to help us plan and grow Sad Hours, our signature grief community gatherings, while supporting our broader event and partnership efforts. In this role, you will help scout venues, research potential sponsors, and coordinate social media content that brings people into these spaces. This position is ideal for someone looking to gain experience in event planning, partnership development, and digital content creation, all while making a real difference in the lives of those experiencing grief.

Key Responsibilities
  • Help plan Sad Hours, including logistics, scheduling, and run of show
  • Research and scout potential venues for Sad Hours
  • Research potential sponsorship partners and help build a sponsorship prospect list
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to create engaging content for brand social media accounts supporting Sad Hours and other Grieve Leave events
  • Build relationships with potential partners, influencers, and organizations focused on grief, emotional support, and wellness
  • Support virtual and in-person programming efforts, including workshops, webinars, and live events, including Sad Hours and other events
Ideal Candidate Skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Event planning or coordination experience
  • Writing with a personal voice
  • Experienced with TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Research and data entry
